Signs of
God’s Presence
Read
Matthew 25:42
The
good thing about our crazy dog, Toby, is that he needs a walk every
day, and the bad thing about Toby is that he needs a walk every day.
When
we chose him, I wanted a walking companion; well, as they say, be
careful what you wish for. Toby is like the Postal Service: neither
snow, nor rain, nor heat, nor gloom of night… So the other morning
when I looked out the window and saw rain and looked at the
thermometer and read 35 degrees, I was little grumpy.
We
follow a fairly predictable, quiet route and, believe me, there was
no one else out that morning. Turning off Lakeshore at our regular
corner, we were startled by a gorgeous pheasant running across the
street right in front of us and eventually flying off toward the
lake. It was a shock because it was so close and so out of place on a
usually busy intersection.
It’s
easy to get caught up in everyday worries and routines and forget
about the wonders that are often there when we least expect them. So
I was grateful to be reminded that we should always be ready for
signs of God’s presence even on a cold, wet morning on a deserted
suburban sidewalk.
